Germany, Imperial. A Rare 1914 Enlistment Medal for Recruits
Bronze, obverse illustrating the right-facing bust of Kaiser Wilhelm II, surrounded by the inscription "WILHELM II. DEUTSCHER KAISER KÖNIG V. PREUSSEN" and marked "M", inscribed "ICH WILL MEINES STAATES ERSTER DIENER SEIN" above a ribboned branch of oak leaves, surrounded by the inscription "JCH BIN ENTSCHLOSSEN FRIEDEN ZU HALTEN MIT JEDERMANN SOVIEL AN MIR LIEGT", 39 mm, integral suspension, surface oxidation on the reverse, light contact, better than very fine. Footnote: This medal was given to recruits when they enlisted in the German army at the beginning of the war in 1914.
