This is a textbook example of an Iron Cross 1914 Second Class by a well-known maker; silver frame with a blackened iron core; on loop for suspension (marked “W&S” for “Wagner & Sohn, Berlin”); with non-combatant’s ribbon; measuring 43.11 m x 43.04 mm; weighing 18.9 grams; mint. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper with a textured black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior with two retainer straps for the ribbon; recessed medal; latch attached to box via two pins on the lid, and two on the base of the box - with one of the pins missing on the latch on the lid; interior fabric hinge cover fully intact; functional external metal hinge; measuring 81 mm x 67 mm; mint condition.
