An Non-Combatant’s Iron Cross 1914 Second Class in its Original Case of Issue
A textbook example of a non-combatant’s Iron Cross 1914 Second Class “Eisernes Kreuz 1914 2. Klasse”; white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; on loop for suspension (marked “L.W” - an unidentified maker); with its period original full-length non-combatant’s ribbon; the obverse with a raised central “W” with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, as well as with a raised Prussian royal crown on the upper arm; the reverse with an oak leaf twig with three leaves in the centre, the original institution date “1813” on the bottom arm, as well as “FW” in raised letter and a raised Prussian royal crown on the upper arm. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper with a burgundy faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior lid with a recessed medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; functional external metal hinge; measuring 89 mm x 70 mm; better than very fine condition, with a well preserved cross, but with the case slightly damaged on the corners from storage.
