Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a depiction of a German national eagle grappling with a Chinese dragon, bordered by a laurel wreath, the reverse with a central monogram of Kaiser Wilhelm II, topped by a German State Crown, circumscribed by inscription “VERDIENST UM DIE EXPEDITION NACH CHINA” (“SERVICE TO THE EXPEDITION IN CHINA”), bordered by a laurel wreath, unmarked, measuring 32.68 mm (w) x 38.31 mm (h), weighing 16.9 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
