What's a max bid?

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Buyer's Premium

All bids are subject to a Buyer's Premium which is in addition to the placed successful bid. The following rate of Buyer's Premium will be added to the Hammer Price of each Lot that you purchase:

Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Grand Cross of the Iron Cross, Exhibition Example

(Großkreuz des Eisernen Kreuz). A very fine quality cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central W, with the re-institution date 1914 in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm, the reverse centre with a branch of three oak leaves below the crowned initials FW, with the original institution date 1813 in raised numbering on the lower arm, measuring 58.54 mm (w) x 58.95 mm (h), weighing 25.5 grams, and in very fine condition. An excellent high quality example, probably manufactured circa 1920-30s.

 

Footnote: Officially awarded Grand Cross of the Iron Cross 1914 (five recipients in total) werel made by Wagner, with silver frame, and of different style manufacture then this cross. This version of the cross was period manufactured as a museum example, also often exhibited during military ceremonies and State anniversaries, as evident from contemporary publications and photos.
