Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross I Class
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse). Reinstituted on 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). A Cross Pattée of multi-piece construction, with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver border, the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the reinstitution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm the reverse plain with a barrel hinge and unusual vertical banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, measuring 41.72 mm (w) x 41.93, weighing 13.3 grams, evidence of pinback replacement, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.
