Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross, I Class by Königliches Münzamt Orden, with Case
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse). Reinstituted 5 August 1914. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse is plain and bears a vertical pinback with a round wire catch, marked “KO” (Königliches Münzamt Orden, Berlin), measuring 43.20 mm (w) x 43.33 mm (h), weighing 15.9 grams; with case constructed of black diamond shape textured paper with an embossed Iron Cross paty on the exterior lid, with push button latch, the interior lid is constructed of white fabric and the medal bed is of purple velvet with a recess for the medal to lay in, measuring 62.53 mm (w) x 66.54 mm (h), very fine.
