Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross I Class, One-Piece Screwback Version
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of a one-piece non-magnetic metal alloy, consisting of a vaulted Cross Pattée with a blackened core within a ribbed and silvered frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a central threaded lug retaining a period original backplate and washer, unmarked, measuring 42.78 mm (w) x 42.36 mm (h), weighing 25.3 grams (inclusive of hardware), with minor loss of black finish visible to the core, in near extremely fine condition.
