Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross I Class with Award Document, 161st Infantry Regiment
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse mit Verleihungsurkunde). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of of silver and brass, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened brass core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 43.32 mm (w) x 43.02 mm (h), weighing 15.2 grams, evidence of repair to the catch, in overall near extremely fine condition, accompanied by its award document, constructed of paper, the obverse with a finely-detailed depiction of Germania honouring a knight, dedicated to “FRIDERICKS” of the 161st Infantry Regiment, with a date of 31 October 1918, measuring 165 mm (w) x 208 mm (h), a central folding crease is evident, in overall extremely fine condition.
