Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross, II Class
(Eiserne Kreuze). A cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central W, with the re-institution date 1914 in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm, the reverse centre with a branch of three oak leaves below the crowned initials FW, with the original institution date 1813 in raised numbering on the lower arm, maker marked with an illegible letter (possible G for Godet) on ring, measuring 42.99 mm (w) x 42.36 mm (h), weighing 18.7 grams, on loop for suspension from period original ribbon, and in better than very fine condition.
