Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class for Non-Combatants
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). A Cross Pattée of multi-piece construction, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, with a reinstitution date of “1914” on the lower arm and a royal crown on the top arm, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the bottom arm with an initial institution date of “1813” and the top arm with raised initials of “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 43.16 mm (w) x 47.76 mm (h), weighing 19.5 grams, in better than very fine condition.
