Germany, Imperial. A First War Austro-German Alliance Commemorative Medal
(Zweibund Erinnerungsabzeichen). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with leftward-facing profiles of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Emperor Franz Joseph I, flanked by dates of “1914-1916” and an inscription of “EINIG UND TREU” (“UNITED AND LOYAL”), the reverse with an inscription of “ERINNERUNG AN DIE SIEGREICHEN KÄMPFE IM OST U. WEST 1914” (“MEMENTO OF THE VICTORIOUS STRUGGLE IN EAST AND WEST 1914”), within a laurel wreath and topped by a 1914 Iron Cross, unmarked, measuring 40.53 mm in diameter, weighing 20.3 grams, oxidation evident, in overall better than very fine condition.
