Germany, Imperial. A First World War Red Cross Volunteer Assistant’s ID Badge, Named and Attributed, by Friedrich Orth
(Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Hilfskrankenpflegerin Abzeichen). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a white enameled disc overlaid by a central red enameled Geneva Cross, set within a gilt ring and circumscribed by an inscription of “FREI. HILFSKRANKENPFLEGERIN VOM ROTEN KREUZE” (“VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT NURSE OF THE RED CROSS”), the reverse with a clip hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a flattened catch, bearing a carefully-engraved inscription of “RESERVESPITAL N 8, KRIEGSJAHRE 1915, SCHWESTER LOTTE”, above a stamped IDnumber of “3276”, maker marked “F. ORTH, WIEN”, measuring 40 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
