Germany, Imperial. A Manfred von Richthofen Silver Medallion, by the Bavarian Mint
(Manfred von Richthofen Erinnerungsmedaille in Silber). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a raised and finely-detailed profile of Manfred von Richthofen (the “Red Baron”), circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a raised eagle and stylized von Richthofen family coat of arms, overlying a depiction of the Baron’s tombstone, circumscribed by an inscription of “DER ROTE KAMPFFLIEGER” (“THE RED FIGHTER PILOT”), the edge maker marked “BAYER. HAUPTMÜNZAMT” for the Bavarian Mint and “FEINSILBER” indicating pure (.999) silver composition, measuring 36.70 mm in diameter, weighing 19.6 grams, with only minor tarnishing evident, in extremely fine condition.
