Germany, Imperial. A Max Immelmann and Oswald Boelcke Commemorative Plate, by Rosenthal
(Luftstreitkräfte Gedenkteller). Constructed of glazed white porcelain, the obverse bearing a blue German national eagle clutching dual circular laurel leaf wreaths, one wreath depicting Max Immelmann and the other depicting Oswald Boelcke, above a banner depicting the logo of the Deutscher Luft-Flotten-Verein (German Airfleet Association), circumscribed by an inscription of “DEM GEDENKEN UNSERER BEIDEN HELDEN” (“IN MEMORY OF BOTH OF OUR HEROES”), the reverse with dual channels for the insertion of a hanger, maker marked “ROSENTHAL, KUNST-ABTEILUNG, SELB-BAVARIA”, with dates “1914-1918” circumscribing an iron cross, measuring 240 mm in diameter, minor scratching is evident, along with some loss of glaze to the reverse, in overall near extremely fine condition.
