Germany, Imperial. A Signals/Telegraph Troops Belt Buckle, with Verdun Dedication
(Gürtelschnalle für Telegraphtruppen). Constructed of partially silvered bronze, the obverse bearing a central raised crown, set within a ribbed wreathed bearing an inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD WITH US”) with laurel leaf branches, with each end fastened with integral loops, the centrepiece flanked by a stamped inscription of “VERDUN V. II. 18”, the reverse with a loop and swivel attachment claws, unmarked, measuring 106 mm (w) x 48 mm (h), with minor denting and loss of finish evident, a unique commemorative buckle in very fine condition.
