Germany, Imperial. A Unique First World War Veteran’s Award Presentation Set to August Bock
(Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918 mit Heftmapper und Verleihungsurkunde). A unique Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 presentation set to August Bock, featuring the award, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with crossed swords through the centrepiece, the obverse bearing central wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse maker marked “05” for an unidentified manufacturer, measuring 37.68 mm (w) x 41.70 mm (h), weighing 14.7 grams, in near extremely fine condition, accompanied by its award document, constructed of off-white paper with black ink, named to “KAUFMANN AUGUST BOCK” of Oberohe, issued at Celle on 1 December 1934, measuring 204 mm (w) x 145 mm (h); also accompanied by a patriotic postcard, the obverse depicting Generalfeldmarschall Paul von Hindenburg, the obverse bearing studio marks, the reverse with Feldpost marks and a brief handwritten dedication, posted 22 June 1915, measuring 93 mm (w) x 142 mm (h), in extremely fine condition, and; a group photo depicting Bock in postwar Reichswehr service, dated 27 January 1925, the image measuring 137 mm (w) x 85 mm (h), pasted to a field-grey card stock backer measuring 180 mm (w) x 150 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition; all secreted within a customized binder, consisting of a heavy card stock binding with a faux field-grey leather exterior liner, the obverse bearing an embossed Stahlhelm above dates “1914-1918”, the reverse bearing an embossed maker’s mark of “WILH. RUFUS, DORTMUND”, opening to reveal a black velvet bed onto which the medal and postcard are affixed, the opposite side featuring a transparent celluloid folder displaying the award document, opening to reveal a compartment into which is set the Reichswehr photo, measuring 236 mm (w) x 175 mm (h), with only minor material wear evident to the exterior, in overall near extremely fine condition.
