Germany, Imperial. A Wartime Signed Postcard of Fighter Ace Max Immelmann

(Fliegerass Postkarte mit Unterschrift). A rare and extremely well-preserved postcard depicting fighter ace Max Immelmann, in uniform with a flyer’s coat and standing next to a wrecked aircraft, the upper part of the image overlaid by Immelmann’s handwritten signature in black ink, the reverse unused, part of a series of notable figure postcards released by W. Sanke, Berlin, measuring 136 mm (w) x 88 mm (h), in extremely fine condition. Footnote: Credited with 15 aerial victories during the First World War, Max Immelmann was also an innovative pilot, being the first to score a confirmed kill with a synchronized machine gun, as well as pioneering the so-called “Immelmann turn”, repositioning an aircraft to engage a second enemy after an initial victory. This tactic remains in use by air force personnel today.
