What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Buyer's Premium

All bids are subject to a Buyer's Premium which is in addition to the placed successful bid. The following rate of Buyer's Premium will be added to the Hammer Price of each Lot that you purchase:

A preliminary Iron Cross 1914 2nd Class award certificate to Unteroffizier (NCO) Hörmann in the 8th Company of the Royal Bavarian 11th Infantry Regiment, dated to August 3, 1817. Measuring 157 mm (w) x 268 mm (h), presenting multiple folding creases and light creasing of the edges, remains very fine.

A promotion document to Hörmann from Unteroffizier to Sergeant, dated to Deggendorf on April 23, 1918. Measuring 217 mm (w) x 340 mm (h), presenting two folding creases, light creasing and fraying of the edges, and multiple smaller tears, remains fine.

A period photo of Hörmann in traditional Bavarian suit. Measuring 106 mm (w) x 135 mm (h), presenting minimal scuffing of the edges, remains near mint.

A certificate for 25 years of service to Verwaltungsinspektor (administrative inspector) Hörmann from the director of the Bavarian main pension office, dated to Munich on October 23, 1937. Measuring 210 mm (w) x 296 mm (h), presenting light creasing of the edges, remains extremely fine.

A promotion certificate to Regierungsinspektor (governmental inspector) Hörmann, with promotion to Regierungsoberinspektor (senior governmental inspector), dated to Munich on October 5, 1951 and signed in blue ink by the Bavarian minister for labour and social welfare, Dr. Oechsel. Measuring 209 mm (w) x 296 mm (h), presenting light creasing of the edges, remains extremely fine.

A certificate of retirement to Regierungsoberinspektor Hörmann, dated to Munich on July 20, 1956, signed in blue ink by the Bavarian minister of labour and social welfare, Stain. Measuring 209 mm (w) x 296 mm (h), presenting minimal creasing, remains near mint.

A First War service record to Vizefeldwebel (vice sergeant) Hörmann, dated to Deggendorf on October 31, 1919. Measuring 208 mm (w) x 330 mm (h), presenting two folding creases, light creasing and minimal fraying of the edges, remains very fine.

The transcript of an employment reference to Sergeant Hörmann from Hauptmann (captain) Max Welzl, Adjutant and District Officer of the district command of Deggendorf, stating that Hörmann had worked with him to his full satisfaction from June 1917 to February 1919. Dated to February 27, 1920, transcript dated to March 4, 1920. Measuring 210 mm (w) x 332 mm (h), presenting one folding crease, and light creasing and fraying of the edges, remains near very fine.

An honour certificate from the city council of Deggendorf for war veteran Hörmann, dated to October 12, 1919. Measuring 215 mm (w) x 303 mm (h), presenting light scuffing and minimal overall creasing, remains extremely fine.

A service record from the Lazarettschule (military hospital school) Oberpfalz and Regensburg, stating that Unteroffizier Hörmann was taught how to conduct administrative work from October 18, 1915 to July 1, 1916. Measuring 209 mm (w) x 329 mm (h), presenting a folding crease and light creasing and fraying of the edges, remains very fine.

A résumé, dated to Deggendorf in March 12, 1920, signed in pencil by Hörmann. Measuring 211 mm (w) x 330 mm (h), presenting light scuffing and creasing of the edges, remains extremely fine.

An exam certificate named to Verwaltungs-Assistent (administration assistant) Hörmann at the pension office in Deggendorf, stating that he qualifies for lower administrative service. Dated to Berlin on September 15, 1922. Measuring 210 mm (w) x 165 mm (h), presenting a folding crease and light creasing and fraying of the edges, remains very fine.

A marriage permit to Sergeant and staff writer Hörmann, dated to Deggendorf on September 27, 1918. Measuring 209 mm (w) x 328 mm (h), presenting light overall creasing and minor scuffing of the edges, remains near extremely fine.

A loan contract signed by Hörmann, dated to September 19, 1918. Measuring 209 mm (w) x 327 mm (h), presenting two folding creases, and light creasing and fraying of the edges, remains near very fine.

A loan contract between Hörmann’s father Adam and Adam’s sister Elisabeth for 1,352.35 Mark, dated to Thannstein on November 28, 1886. Measuring 207 mm (w) x 332 mm (h), presenting multiple folding creases and some fraying of the edges, including multiple smaller tears, remains near fine.

 

Footnote:Josef Hörmann was born on August 12, 1891 in Thanstein (eastern Bavaria). He joined the 8th Company of the 11th Infantry Regiment in Regensburg in October of 1912 and was promoted to Gefreiter (lance corporal) in November of 1913. With the beginning of the First War, Hörmann was sent to the western front as a group leader. On August 25, 1914, Hörmann’s right hand and upper arm where hit by a projectile. Recovery in the military hospital in Regensburg took until June of 1915. After his return to service, Hörmann became a military administrative clerk and writer. He was promoted to Unteroffizier (NCO) on July 21, 1915. Hörmann attended the administrative part of the military hospital school Regensburg next to his regular duties from October 1915 to July 1916. After this, he was appointed staff writer at the district command Deggendorf. He was promoted to Sergeant on April 23, 1918 and discharged from military service on October 31, 1919. After the war, Hörmann started working for the Bavarian pension office as an administrative clerk. When he retired in 1956, he was in the rank of senior government inspector.
