Four First War German Imperial Airmen Postcards
The first postcard illustrates a standing Lieutenant Immelmann, inscribed "Oberleutnant Immelmann" with the memorial cross beside his name at the upper right and "361 / Postkartenvertrieb W. Sanke BERLIN N.37. / Nachdruck wird gerichtlich verfolgt." at the lower right, 85 mm x 136 mm. The second postcard illustrates a standing Lieutenant von Bertrab, inscribed "Leutnant v. Bertrab" below and "531 / Postkartenvertrieb W. Sanke BERLIN N.37. / Nachdruck wird gerichtlich verfolgt." at the lower right, 86 mm x 136 mm. The third postcard illustrates five airmen in a wooded setting, inscribed "5 unserer erfolgreichsten Kampfflieger." at the left, "Vizefeldwebel Festner / Leutnant Schäfer / Leutnant Frhr. von Richthofen / Rittmeister Frhr. von Richthofen / Leutnant Wolff" below and "511 / Postkartenvertrieb W. Sanke BERLIN N.37. / Nachdruck wird gerichtlich verfolgt." at the lower right, 87 mm x 134 mm. The fourth postcard illustrates thirteen airmen standing in front of a wall, with Captain Boelcke and Lieutenant Immelmann surrounded by their comrades, five of which are wearing Pilot Badges, one is wearing an Observer's Badge, two are wearing the Iron Cross 1st Class 1915, with both Captain Boelcke and Lieutenant Immelmann wearing the Pour-le-Merite, inscribed "Hauptmann Boelcke und Oberleutnant Immelmann im Kreise ihrer Kameraden." below and "373 / Postkartenvertrieb W. Sanke BERLIN N.37. / Nachdruck wird gerichtlich verfolgt." at the lower right, 85 mm x 137 mm. Three are sepia-toned, one is black and white, on card stock, each with postcard backers, unaddressed, extremely fine.
