Black and white, faded to a sepia-toned look, the obverse illustrating a seated Army officer in uniform from the waist up, in a studio setting, large epaulettes on both shoulders, aiguillettes protruding from the right epaulette, travelling down the right side and finishing at the opening of the tunic. He is wearing a medal grouping on a suspension on his left breast, consisting of five awards, the Order of the Wurttemberg Crown 1st Class, the Wurttemberg Long Service Cross, the Prussian War Merit Medal 1870-1871, the Austrian Order ofLeopold and the Russian Order of St. Anne, with the Order of the Wurttemberg Crown 1st Class Breast Star appearing below the grouping, the photo measuring 97 mm x 136 mm and mounted to a white panelled card with a coat-of-arms, the photographer's name "ERWIN HANFSTAENGL" above, the "STUTTGART." city mark below, inscribed "HOF - PHOTOGRAPH S. M. DES KÖNIGS VON PREUSSEN" beside the arms. The reverse is blank other than a few numeric inscriptions in ink and pencil, the card designed with rounded corners, 110 mm x 168 mm, exhibiting light soiling, near extremely fine.
