Germany, Imperial. A Rare Large Signed Portrait of Manfred von Richthofen
(Manfred von Richthofen Porträt mit Unterschrift). A rare signed portrait of Manfred von Richthofen (“the Red Baron”), featuring a widely-reproduced image of von Richthofen in uniform and with the Pour le Mérite, 1914 Iron Cross I Class, 1914 Iron Cross II Class ribbon, and Pilot’s Badge clearly visible, measuring 17 cm (w) x 23 cm (h), pasted to a cream-coloured card stock backer, set just above von Richthofen’s handwritten signature in black ink, dated 2 March 1918 (just over a month before von Richthofen’s death in aerial combat over Moralcourt, France, the backer measuring 30 cm (w) x 40 cm (h), with a small tear visible to the right edge of the backer when viewed from the obverse and with partial detachment of the image from its original paste, a scarce late dedicated photo from the First World War’s top ace in near extremely fine condition.
