Germany, Imperial. A Wartime Signed Photo of Manfred von Richthofen, with Commemorative Death Publication

A rare wartime signed photo of First World War fighter ace Manfred von Richthofen (the “Red Baron”), consisting of a widely-reproduced studio portrait of von Richthofen in uniform and with the Pour le Mérite clearly visible, the lower half of the images overlaid by his handwritten signature in clear black ink, pasted to a card stock backer, the measuring measuring 10 cm (w) x 14.5 cm (h), demonstrating minor creasing to the corner and edges, a scarce dedicated image in extremely fine condition, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity dated 8 August 2015; accompanied by a 5 May 1918 edition of Süddeutsche Illustrierte Zeitung, the cover featuring a close-up depiction of the same image of von Richthofen situated above a caption indicating that the issue is dedicated to his hero’s death on 21 April 1918 after 80 aerial combat victories, measuring 24 cm (w) x 32 cm (h), demonstrating age-appropriate discolouration and material fatigue, in near extremely fine condition.
