Germany, Imperial. A First World War Pilot’s Pocket Watch, by F.W. Kreis
(Taschenuhr). A well-preserved First World War Luftstreitkräfte pilot’s pocket watch, constructed of a non-magnetic polished steel casing, the obverse featuring a subtle off-white face with bold black numerals 1-12, with five rules between each numeral, featuring hour and minute hands, with an additional 60-second stopwatch face situated at the 6 o’clock position, topped by a functional ribbed wind-up dial, surrounding by a loop retaining a china with a functional spring clip and compass fob, the watch case opening to reveal a retractable hatch which folds to reveal the interior mechanisms, the reverse of the case is engraved with a Luftstreitkräfte insignia and initials “P. U. W.” for Prüfanstalt und Werft der Fliegertruppen, otherwise unmarked but demonstrating the physical characteristics of manufacture by F.W. Kreis, Berlin, measuring 55 mm in diameter, fully functional and in an extremely fine condition.
