Germany, Imperial. A Rare M1889 2nd (Pomeranian) Cuirassier Regiment "Queen" Officer’s Metal Helmet

(Metalhelm M1889 für Offiziere der Kürassier-Regiment "Königin" (Pommersches) Nr. 2). A rare and extremely well-preserved M1889 2nd (Pomeranian) Cuirassier Regiment “Queen” Officer’s Metalhelm (Metal Helmet). It is constructed of a magnetic steel shell with a gilded brass reinforcement fully trimming the rim. Riveted to the crown is an oval baseplate constructed of gilded brass, secured in place with four rivets of identical construction. Emanating from the plate is a gilded and silvered brass spike measuring approximately 10 cm from base to tip. Affixed to the peak is a striking gilded brass insignia consisting of a detailed Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, overlaid by a central monogram and banner bearing an inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”). The eagle is overlaid by an additional banner set across its legs bearing an additional inscription of “HOHENFRIEDBERG 4 JUNI 1745”, commemorating Prussia’s victory over Austria and Saxony at the eponymous battle. It measures 13 cm (w) x 13 cm (h) as custom-fitted for the helmet. It is flanked on each side by threaded magnetic metal studs which in turn accommodate a two-piece black leather chinstrap, bearing tapering gilded brass scales on the obverse. The left stud overlays a black- and white-painted magnetic metal Prussian rosette, while the right stud overlaid a red, white, and black Imperial tricolour of identical construction. Completing the exterior features are a rounded frontal visor, and a lobster tail-style multi-piece neck guard, riveted with 11 gilded brass studs for structural integrity. The interior features a black leather combined sweatband and liner culminating in nine fingers, each perforate at the top for the accommodation of a drawstring which has been lost to time. It is unmarked with the exception of a stamped size of “54” on the neck guard rim liner. The helmet measures approximately 21 cm (w) x 29 cm (l) x 30 cm (h) (inclusive of spike). Minor tarnishing of the base metal is evident, with additional age-appropriate material fatigue of the leather elements and some loss of interior shell paint. This rare and striking helmet is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
