A Frack Mounted 1914 Mecklenburg War Merit Cross Medal Bar
A German frack mounted medal bar grouping, consisting of 1) A 1914 Mecklenburg-Schwerin War Merit Cross; in bronze gilt; one-piece cross pattee with a ribbed border and a pebbled core; the obverse with “FF” in the center of the cross, “1914” on the bottom arm, and an outline of the royal crown on the top arm; the reverse inscribed “Für Auszeichnungen im Kriege” in raised lettering; measuring 44.99 mm x 40.85 mm, 2) An Iron Cross 1914 Second Class;cross pattee of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border; the obverse with a raised central “W”, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm; the reverse with a central oak-leaf branch consisting of three oak leaves, with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbers on the lower arm, a raised Prussian crown on the upper arm, with “FW” in equally raised lettering directly below; measuring 46.61 mm x 42.28 mm; mounted frack-style on their respective period original ribbons; the Mecklenburg War Merit Cross ribbon faded, possibly from exposure to water; near very fine condition.
