Germany, Empire. A First War German Medal Bar with Four Medals, Awards, and Decorations
A first war period medal bar four medal, awards, and decorations, consisting of 1) An Iron Cross 1914 Second Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1914 2. Klasse). Across pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border; on loop for suspension; he obverse with a raised central “W”, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm; the reverse with a central oak-leaf branch consisting of three oak leaves, with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbers on the lower arm, a raised Prussian crown on the upper arm, with “FW” in equally raised lettering directly below; measuring 42.92 mm (w) x 42.86 mm (h). 2) A 1914-1918 Oldenburg Friedrich August Cross. A cross pattee in blackened metal (magnetic); the obverse inscribed “FA” for “Friedrich August” in the center, with a Royal Crown on the top arm of the cross and “1914” on the bottom arm of the cross, with a laurel wreath in-between the arms of the cross; the reverse plain; on a loop for suspension; measuring 39.71 mm (w) x 39.95 mm (h). 3) A Hindenburg Cross for Combatants (Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918). Constructed of bronzed metal (magnetic); a cross pattée with crossed swords between the arms of the cross; the obverse inscribed with “1914/1918” within an open-ended laurel wreath; the reverse plain; maker marked with an unknown mark on the reverse; measuring 37.87 mm (w) x 37.86 mm (h). 4) A Prussian Kaiser Wilhelm Centennial Medal (Kaiser Wilhelm Erinnerungsmedaille Zentenarmedaille); A gilt bronze medal; the obverse with a leftward facing bust of Kaiser Wilhelm, inscribed “Wilhelm der Grosse Deutscher Kaiser, Koenig von Preussen” (German - Wilhelm the Great German Kaiser, King of Prussia); the reverse inscribed “Zum andenken an den hundertsten Geburtstag des Grossen Kaisers Wilhelm I, 1797 - 22 Maerz 1897 (German - In remembrance of the one hundredth birthday of Wilhelm I); measuring 39.28 mm in diameter; all mounted to their medal bar, with a metal (magnetic) core, red wool backer, and horizontal pinback; measuring 129 mm (w) X 58 mm (h). In overall better than very fine condition.
