Germany, Imperial. A First World War Combat Veteran’s Medal Bar
(Ordensschnalle). A First World War combat veteran’s medal bar featuring two decorations, including a Flanders Cross, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with Somme, Flanders, and Western Front campaign clasps, the medal consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with pebbled and ribbed arms and with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, bearing a central wreathed and crowned fouled anchor, the arms bearing an inscription of “ZUR SEE IM FELDE UNBESIEGT” (“ON THE SEA AND IN THE FIELD UNBEATEN”), the reverse bearing a central wreathed Imperial war flag, the arms bearing an inscription of “MARINE-KORPS 1914/18” with a lion rampant, unmarked, measuring 40.32 mm (w) x 46.11 mm (h), and; an Oldenburg Friedrich August Kreuz, II Class, constructed of blackened magnetic iron, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with France, Eastern Front, and Russia campaign clasps, consisting of a Cross Pattée with its arms joined through the quadrants by a laurel leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich August II, the six o’clock arm with an institution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 38.90 mm (w) x 43.52 mm (h); both suspended from a 70 mm-long magnetic mtal bar with a black wool reverse liner and horizontal pinback, unmarked, the Friedrich August Cross demonstrating moderate oxidation, in overall near extremely fine condition.
