Prussia. A Unique Imperial German Medal Bar with an Abdul al-Hamid Commemorative Medal
A unique Imperial Prussian medal bar, consisting of 1) An 1879-1918 issue Order of the Red Eagle Fourth Class (Preußische Rote Adlerorden IV. Klasse); silver cross pattée with smooth arms; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting an enameled Brandenburg crowned eagle; the reverse with the crowned cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm III; an unmarked example; measuring 38.78 mm (w) x 38.62 mm (h). 2) An 1897 Prussian Kaiser Wilhelm Centennial Medal (Kaiser Wilhelm Erinnerungsmedaille-Zentenarmedaille); a gilt bronze medal; the obverse with a leftward facing bust of Kaiser Wilhelm, inscribed “Wilhelm der Grosse Deutscher Kaiser, Koenig von Preussen” (German - Wilhelm the Great German Kaiser, King of Prussia); the reverse inscribed “Zum andenken an den hundertsten Geburtstag des Grossen Kaisers Wilhelm I, 1797 - 22 Maerz 1897 (German - In remembrance of the one hundredth birthday of Wilhelm I); measuring 39.65 mm in diameter. 3) An 1876-1909 issue Abd al-Hamid Commemorative Medal; a round medal constructed of gilt bronze; the obverse showing a crowned royal Prussian eagle, circumscribed “Zur Erinnerung An Den Besuch Seiner Majestät Des Deutschen Kaisers Wilhelm II Bei Seiner Majestät dem kaiser Der Osmanen Abdulal Hamid II In Constantinopel 2. November 1889” (German - In Remembrance Of The Visit Of His Majesty The German Emperor Wilhelm II To His Majesty the Emperor The Ottoman Abdul al-Hamid II In Constantinople November 2, 1889); the reverse featuring the Royal Tughra Monogram, circumscribed by Arabic writing; on loop for suspension; measuring 29.54 mm; mounted to a medal bar and suspended via their respective period original ribbons; metal core (non-magnetic); red wool backer - with a maker’s tag reading “J. Godet & Sohn, Königliche Hofjuwiliere, Berlin. W. Friedrichsstrasse 16” in golden machine embroidery; horizontal pinback; measuring 114 mm (w) x 61 mm (h); in overall extremely fine condition.
