Germany, Imperial. A Named Franco-Prussian War Stein 1870/71
(Deutsch-Französischer Krieg Erinnerungs-Krug). A superb Franco-Prussian War commemorative stein, constructed of glazed off-white porcelain with hand-painted brown rings at the elevated points, two of which are trimmed with gilt, the exterior bearing a carefully hand-painted dedication of “ZUR ERINNERUNG A. D. FELDZUG 1870/71. (“IN MEMORY OF THE CAMPAIGN OF 1870/81”, above an owner’s name of “K. MÜLHERR, DRAGONER”, featuring a protruding handle retaining a fully-intact pewter lid on a functional swivel hinge with an ornate arabesque thumb grip, the top edge bearing an etched measurement of “1/2 L” for one half litre, unmarked, measuring 10.5 cm in width (exclusive of handle) x 24 cm (h) (inclusive of lid), minor surface scratching is visible to the paint and glaze with a shallow crack at the rim which extends downward to the top of the handle, a unique personalized memento from the estate of a Franco-Prussian War veteran in near extremely fine condition.
