Germany, Imperial. A Jäger Regiment Musician’s Dress Tunic
(Waffenrock für Musiker der Jäger-Regiment). A well-preserved Jäger regiment musician’s dress tunic, constructed of a smooth hunter green wool cloth. It features a shallow upturned collar, lined on the exterior with a smooth red doeskin wool. Affixed to each shoulder is a strap constructed of red doeskin wool, secured in place with stitching at the outer edge and with a gilded magnetic metal button on the inner edge. Each button bears a raised and crowned mark of “13. RGT.”. Measuring 38 mm (w) x 105 mm (l), the straps both demonstrate the removal of a musician’s cypher, with the outline remaining clearly visible. Also emanating from each shoulder is a swallow’s nest, each constructed of a red doeskin wool base and adorned with seven vertically-arranged gold bullion wire tresses meeting a border of identical construction. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 85 mm and secured in place at the top with a row of machine stitching. The tunic closes with a row of four bronze buttons on the right flap meeting five reinforced buttonholes on the left flap, with the uppermost button having been lost to time. Completing the exterior features are two bronze belt hooks set into the lower back, just above a reinforced vertical slit to the material. The interior is fully lined with a slate grey rayon liner which transitions into a pinstripe design through each arm. Unmarked, it measures approximately 385 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 585 mm, and an overall body length of 690 mm. In addition to the aforementioned missing insignia and button, it demonstrates issues consistent with age and wear, including sporadic mothing to the exterior wool, soiling and fatigue to the armpits, and some soiling of the interior liner. The tunic is in an overall very fine condition.
