Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross, II Class, by Friedländer
(Eiserne Kreuze). A cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central W, with the re-institution date 1914 in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm, the reverse centre with a branch of three oak leaves below the crowned initials FW, with the original institution date 1813 in raised numbering on the lower arm, maker marked Fr. on ring for Friedländer, Berlin, measuring 43.20 mm (w) x 43.29 mm (h), weighing 16.5 grams, on loop for suspension from period original ribbon, and in extremely fine condition.
