Germany, Imperial. A Cased 1914 Iron Cross I Class in Case
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of silver and iron, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a magnetic blackened iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse maker marked “KO’, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, measuring 43.35 mm (w) x 43.37 mm, weighing 15.6 grams, including its period original case of issue, constructed of card stock with a faux black leather exterior, the obverse lid with a white embossed Cross Pattée, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, slotted purple felt medal bed, opening with a functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 65 mm (w) x 65 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), in better than very fine condition.
