A silver cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central W under an Imperial crown, and institution date 1914 in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse centre with a branch of three oak leaves below the crowned initials FW, with the original institution date 1813 in raised numbering on the lower arm, marked silver hallmark 800 on integral ring, measuring 63.50 mm (w) x 71.35 mm (h), on loop for suspension from period original neck ribbon, of very fine quality manufacture, with excellent quality silvering, and in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: such crosses were period produced as museum or exhibition pieces, especially during the start of WW1, when patriotic and military exhibitions were frequently taking place.
