Prussia, Kingdom. A Koniggratz Commemorative Cross, I Type. (Preussen, Erinnerungskreuz Königgrätz). Instituted 20 September 1866 by King Wilhelm I of Prussia. A Rupert cross paty, a laurel wreath lays between the arms, the obverse centre bears the cipher WR (Wilhelm Rex (King)) circumscribed with “PREUSSENS SIEGREICHEN HEERE” (PRUSSIA’S VICTORIOUS WARRIORS), the 12 o’clock arm bears a crown and the 9, 3 and 6 o ‘clock arms bear the inscription “GOTT WAR MIT UNS IHM SEI DIE EHRE” (GOD WAS WITH US, TO HIM BE THE GLORY), the reverse centre bears a crowned Prussia eagle perched on top of an Austrian cannon, the 12 o’clock arms bears the inscription “KONIG-GRATZ”, the 9 o’clock arm bears “DEN 3”, the 3 o’clock arm bears “JULI” and the 6 o’clock arm bears “1866”, measuring16.11 mm (w) x 18.73 mm (h); Bavaria, Kingdom. A Military Merit Cross, III Class with Swords & Crown (Militär-Verdienstkreuz, III Klasse). A Maltese cross paty with painted centre, the obverse central medallion bears the cipher of King Ludwig III, circumscribed with the “MERENTI” (MERIT), the reverse bears the Bavarian crowned lion circumscribed by a buckled belt, dated 1866, with with two crossed swords and a crown suspension, measuring 15.65 mm (w) x 30.01 mm (h), both very fine.
