Germany, Imperial and Hungary, Kingdom. A Grouping of Commemorative Medals
(Erinnerungsmedaillen). A grouping of German and Hungarian commemorative medals, including an 1871 Franco-Prussian War Medal for Combatants, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension, obverse presents with stylized Prussian royal crown and letter “W” and inscription “Dem siegreichen Heere” (“To the victorious army”) with circular inscription “Gott war mit uns, ihm sei die Ehre” (“God was with us, to him the glory”), obverse presents with an Iron Cross over sun rays with a central laurel wreath encasing a date of “1870-1871”, the edge in inscribed “AUS EROBERTEM GESCHUETZ” (“From captured cannon”), unmarked, measuring 29 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition; an 1897 Kaiser Wilhelm I centenary medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension, obverse depicts rightward-facing profile of Kaiser Wilhelm I with inscription “Wilhelm der Grosse, Deutscher Kaiser und Koenig von Preussen” (“William the Great, German Emperor and King of Prussia”), obverse inscribed “Zum Andenken hundertsten Geburtstag des Grossen Kaisers Wilhelm I 1797 - 22. Maerz 1897” (“A souvenir of the hundredth birthday of the great Emperor William I 22 March 1797-1897”) over stylized royal regalia and oak leaves, unmarked, measuring 40 mm in diameter, in very fine condition, and; a Hungarian First War commemorative medal, constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension, obverse depicts an Austro-Hungarian Stahlhelm (steel helmet) with the inscription “PRO DEO ET PATRIA” (“For God and Country”) and the dates “1914-1918” over a laurel wreath, unmarked, measuring 37 mm in diameter, in overall near very fine condition.
