A Fine First War Prussian Observer’s Badge by C. E Juncker of Berlin in its Case of Issue
A textbook example of a Prussian Observer’s badge (Beobachterabzeichen); in silver (marked “800” on the reverse for silver content); hollow construction; with a finely enameled square insignia consisting of white, black, and red enamels mounted to the center of the obverse via two hooks on the reverse; the square insignia placed within a bed of sun rays and a wreath consisting of oak and laurel leaves, and with a bow on the bottom, and a Prussian crown on the top of the wreath; maker marked “C. E. Juncker” on the reverse with a crescent moon and “800” directly below; vertical straight pin with a functional hinge/catch assembly; single breather hole beside the catch; measuring 71.79 mm x 45.11 mm; weighing 32.6 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue, constructed of pressed paper, with a lightly textured black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior lid (embossed with “C. E. Juncker - Alte Jacobstr 13, berlin S. W.” in golden lettering); slotted medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; intact and functional dual exterior metal hinges; measuring 85 mm x 61 mm; attractive patina on the badge from age; light scuffing around the edges from storage; overall this is very well preserved example with nearly untouched enamels; in overall extremely fine condition.
