Footnote: Leutnant Heinrich (Heinz) Drekmann was born on April 5, 1896 in Harburg. He was a pilot with the Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 26, then with Jagdstaffel 4, the "Hunting Group" (Fighter Squadron) of the Luftstreitkräfte (German Air Service), flying Pfalz D.III's throughout the war. He was Killed in Action on July 30, 1918 at Grand Rozoy, at the age of 22, credited with eleven victories. One of his brothers, Hanns Drekmann, was killed in October 1915 while with a Feldflieger Abteilungen (FFA = Field Flier Companies), the pioneering field aviation units of the Luftstreitkräfte (German Air Service). Another brother, Leutnant Richard Drekmann, the one who dedicated this badge to Heinz, was born on May 12, 1897 and was an observer.
