A Prussian Air Gunner Badge; Named to the Bomber Wing of the Supreme Army Command
In silvered tombac, hollow construction, measuring 31.17mm x 54.56mm, weighs 11.5 grams, excellent quality with fine details, engraved on reverse, in slightly worn condition; a rare engraved example of high quality manufacture, likely worn suspended from a ribbon or a chain, as there is no sign of pin assembly ever being present.
Footnote: On the reverse, the decoration is dedicated to the 4th Bogohl (Bombengeschwader der Obersten Heeresleitung = Bomber Wing of the Supreme Army Command), Staffel (squadron) 19, for the time from November 8, 1917 to August 12, 1918. The dates possibly signify the time the recipient of the decoration flew for the aforementioned unit. Bogohl 4 consisted of Bosta (Bombenstaffel = bomb squadron) 19, 20, and 21. It was established on April 3, 1917 and stationed in France on the Western Front.
