Germany, Empire. A Cased Prussian Pilot’s Badge, by C. E. Juncker
(Preussisches Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silver, hollow, the obverse with a standard pilot’s badge motive within a thick wreath, with laurel leaves towards the left side of the wreath, and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, separated by a bow on the bottom of the wreath, adorned by a Prussian crown at the top, the reverse plain, with a vertcial pinback, a barrel hinge, a round wire catch, and a breather hole directly below the catch, marked “C.E. Juncker, Berlin” with a crown, moon, and “800” silver markings on the reverse, measuring 45.51 mm (w) x 71.53 mm (h), weighing 31.3 grams. Accompanied by its case of issue, constructed of heavy cardstock, with a lightly textured faux leather (leatherette) exterior, with a lined interior lid - marked “C.E. Juncker, Alte Jacobstr 13, Berlin S.W.” in gold, with a severed interior fabric hinge cover, a slotted medal bed, a functional spring catch with stud release, and a functional exterior metal hinge, measuring 61 mm (w) x 85 mm (h), in overall extremely fine condition.
