Germany, Imperial. A Prussian Pilot’s Badge, Prinzen Size, c. 1917
(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silvered brass, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a bow tie ribbon, topped by a German State Crown, around a central depiction of a monoplane flying over a rural landscape, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 24.54 mm (w) x 38.56 mm (h), weighing 3.7 grams, with some tarnishing and loss of finish evident, in very fine condition.
