Germany. An Imperial Naval Corps Flanders Cross with Three Campaign Bars
An example of a Marinekorps Flandernkreuz; in bronze; the obverse with “Zur See Unbesiegt im Felde” (German-Undefeated in the Sea) inscribed on all four arms of the cross, with an anchor in the centre, surrounded by an oak wreath and crossed swords; the reverse bears the Prussian naval flag, inscribed “Marinekorps” and “1914/18”, unmarked; on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, bearing 3 campaign bars, being “Flandernschacht”, “Somme”, and “Durchbruchschlacht”; measuring 40.63 mm x 40.22 mm; the reverse with a non-period piece of cardboard sewn to the ribbon, with two prongs of the campaign bars missing; in overall near very fine condition.
