An Extremely Fragile and Scarce Pair of First War Imperial German Aviator's Goggles
Germany (Imperial); Lens frame fabricated from a olive green finished magnetic metal, bands of gray cotton stitched in place around the circumference of each lens frame, the edge of which butts the wearer's face and is lined in fur, marked in white ink with the RCMI Museum code "RCMI 1978.5.3" on the bottom edge of both lens frames (having been in their collection since 1978, until 2017), both glass lenses intact, the joining nose piece strap between the lenses in leather, the outer edge of each lens frame housing leather tabs with metal eyelets stitched in place, the goggles without their strap which has been lost to time, 58 mm x 227 mm, light soiling and wear evident on the gray cotton band surrounding the left lens, the 10 mm wide leather nose piece strap torn and barely attaching the two lenses via the remaining 2 mm. A very fragile and decent example.
