Germany, Third Reich. A Pair of Mess Hall Butter Knives, Kriegsmarine and BMW Factory
(Wehrmacht Buttermesser). A pair of butter knives, including a Kriegsmarine knife, of two-piece magnetic steel construction, consisting of a tapering handle affixed to a non-serrated blade, the obverse of the handle stamped with a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika above a letter “M” (Marine), the blade stamped with the maker’s mark of Besteckfabrik Guertler, Düsseldorf, measuring 22 mm (w) x 250 mm (l), in near extremely fine condition, and; a BMW factory knife, of two-piece magnetic steel construction, consisting of a tapering handle affixed to a non-serrated blade, the obverse of the handle stamped with a BMW logo topped by an inscription of “BMW EIGENTUM” (“BMW PROPERTY”), the reverse stamped with a mark of “NEOXYD” indicating stainless steel construction, the blade marked “CFH ROSTFREI”, measuring 22 mm (w) x 250 mm (l), in near extremely fine condition.
