A Scarce Prussian Grand Cross of the Iron Cross 1870 Battalion Flag Topper

This is a scarce and very desirable “Fahnenzpitze für Bataillonsfahnen mit dem Großkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes 1870; the frame of the topper crafted in fire gilded bronze with a matching laurel wreath; within it is a Grand Cross of the Iron Cross 1870 with a silvered frame and a blackened iron core (magnetic); the base with two drill holes and “30” stamped on the bottom: measuring 241 mm x 104 mm; lightly bent; in untouched field-used condition. Scarce. Footnote: Following the campaign of 1870/71, all Prussian battalion flags that “saw active battle” were retrofitted with new flag points with the Grand Cross. The cross placed within the wreath is identical to the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross 1870. (C:133)
