(Heer Gebirgsjäger Holz-Basrelief). A rare, exceptionally-detailed, hand-carved Heer Gebirgsjäger wooden relief. Fashioned from a single, heavy block of wood, the obverse features a frontal depiction of a Gebirgsjäger gazing into the distance, wearing a Bergmütze (Mountain Cap) adorned with eagle and edelweiss insignia. The soldier is dressed in a parka and has a rifle slung over his left shoulder. Behind him is a rocky, mountainous terrain featuring a raised cross in the style commonly seen on mountain peaks in the alpine regions of Germany and Austria. The lower right corner of the obverse features an etched mark of “HR39”. The reverse presents plain with the exceptions of a carved suspension notch and partially-legible handwritten inscription near the lower right corner. The relief measures 345 mm (w) x 430 mm (h) overall. Presenting free of any notable damage, this unique, hand-made example of Gebirgsjäger history is in an extremely fine condition.
