Germany, Luftwaffe. A 1942 Christmas at War Luftwaffe Reconnaissance Unit Plate, by Henriot Qumper

(Luftwaffe Kriegsweihnachten 1942 Erinnerungsteller). A very well-preserved commemorative Luftwaffe plate, constructed of glazed white porcelain. The obverse features a hand-painted blue female figure in Breton folk costume, circumscribed by an inscription of ‘DIE “EISERNE DRITTE” IM EINSATZ GEGEN ENGLAND - RENNES’ (‘THE “IRON THIRD” IN DEPLOYMENT AGAINST ENGLAND - RENNES’). The outer rim is in turn circumscribed by an inscription of “KRIEGSWEIHNACHTEN 1942” (“WAR CHRISTMAS 1942”), with pine branches and birds. Of French manufacture, the plate is signed on the reverse “HENRIOT QUIMPER”. It measures 296 mm in diameter. Spots where glaze was improperly applied, resulting in the appearance of chips, are evident to the outer rim on both the obverse and reverse, but the plate presents free of cracks and is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
