Germany, Third Reich. A Nuremberg Rally Stein
(Nürnberg Reichsparteitag Bierkrug). A very well-preserved Nuremberg Rally commemorative stein, constructed of glazed off-white earthenware. It features a protruding curved handle to which is affixed a pewter lid on a functional swivel hinge, with a clamshell topper for comfortable thumb manipulation. The exterior of the stein bears a number of designs, including a blue hand-painted depiction of the Nuremberg skyline circumscribed by an inscription of “NÜRNBERG: DIE STADT DER REICHSPARTEITAGE” (“NUREMBERG: THE CITY OF THE REICH PARTY CONVENTIONS”) in Fraktur script. It is flanked on the left by a depiction of Albrecht Dürer’s house, above an inscription of “DÜRER HAUS”, and on the left by a depiction of the Bratwurstglöckle Inn, above its name in Fraktur script. Etched into the top of the exterior is a measurement of “0,5L” for a half-litre. The stein is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 95 mm (w) x 120 mm (h) (not inclusive of lid). Four small chips are evident to the glaze but have not compromised the structure of the earthenware, and there is some minor, age-appropriate wear visible. The stein is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
