Germany, Third Reich. A Rare Cased Collection of Vinyl Recordings of Gauleiter Ludwig Ruckdeschel Speeches
(Schallplatte der Gauleiter Ludwig Ruckdeschel mit Etui). A rare and well-presented collection of vinyl records containing recordings of speeches by Bavarian Gauleiter Ludwig Ruckdeschle. The compilation consists of 18 double-sided vinyl records. Eight of which feature audio obtained on 29 September and 12 October 1940, in Regensburg and Grafenwöhr, respectively, during the welcoming home of German military personnel following the successful campaigns of Spring 1940. Ten further records feature audio of Ruckdeschel’s speeches at the Jugendführertagung (Youth Leadership Conference) in Bamberg on 16 February 1941. All retain double-sided labels identifying the contents and volume number. 17 of the records are secured within original wax paper sleeves, with one of the Jugendführertagung records missing its sleeve. Each record measures 300 mm in diameter. They are accompanied by an ornate storage case, constructed of a heavy wooden frame with a faux dark brown leather exterior liner. The lid features a gilt embossed NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by initials “AH”. The front edge of the case opens with double hinges to reveal three extractable drawers, each featuring two brass knobs. Each drawer features a faceplate displaying the contents of the drawer in gilt lettering. Additionally, the interior of the of the front bears a gilt embossed inscription of “DIESE PLATTEN DÜRFEN NUR MIT FOLIEN-SPEZIALNADELN ABGESPIELT WERDEN” (“THESE RECORDS MAY ONLY BE PLAYED WITH SPECIAL FOIL NEEDLES”). The case itself is situated on four wooden feet, similarly lined with faux dark brown leather liners. It measures 365 mm (w) x 380 mm (l) x 150 mm (h) overall. Conditions related to age and storage conditions are evident, and include deterioration and odours to the wax paper sleeves consistent with exposure to moisture, as well as the loss of a key from the front cover mechanism which prevents the case from being securely closed, with additional minor fatigue to the exterior case itself. This rare and unique compilation of wartime audio recordings is in an overall very fine condition.
