Germany, Luftwaffe. A Luftgau Moskau Porcelain Plate, by Meissen
(Gedenkplatte). A Meissen plate constructed of porcelain with the signature underglaze called “Meissen Blue,” depicts a Luftwaffe-style eagle clutching a mobile swastika, over an outline of three “onion domes” (probably symbolizing St. Basil’s Cathedral, or the Kremlin), surrounded by a ring of blue with white oak leaves and stating “LUFTGAU MOSKAU,” reverse presents the maker mark for Meissen of crossed swords, stamped with “W162” under the glaze on the reverse, measures 17.5 cm in diameter, and in extremely fine condition.
